Messy rooms, protesting kids and angry parents. Sounds familiar right? Teaching your kids to be clean and organized isn’t a pleasant task as they can argue and straight up ignore you. No worries though as in this blog we will be sharing some nice tips on how to teach your children to be organized.

Be a good example

We as parents are like mirrors reflecting and projecting all of our habits towards our children. They copy everything we do and trust us to always be right. Unfortunately, children also copy actions that aren’t very good for them. For example, if your kids see that you never clean and the house is always a mess they will grow up thinking that that is a good action/decision. And unless you explain that cleaning is very important, kids will protest when asked to clean their rooms. Next time instead of yelling at your kids to get cleaning think about how you can set a better example for them.

Help them clean

A lot of times adults may think that their kids know how to clean specific areas and where everything should go in their rooms. This isn’t always the case as children might not remember everything you tell them or they might just simply not know how to. When your kid is in their room cleaning, try going up to them and helping out. Teach them where their toys go. Where dirty socks go. How to make their beds. This way they know what to do and how you want them to clean.

Make cleaning fun

Since kids think of cleaning as boring and just simply unfun, you should motivate them to clean by making cleaning a game. For example, if you have multiple kids you can create a contest between them to see who can clean their room faster. Also don’t forget to reward them as well. Keep in mind that “cleaning games” aren’t appropriate for all ages. Afterall, you definitely aren’t going to reward your kids for cleaning their rooms when they move out.

Set a routine

Kids are pretty unpredictable meaning you never know when they will just stand up and start cleaning their rooms. To help them, you can tell them when to clean. Take a look at your kid’s calendar and find a free space when your kids have enough time to thoroughly clean their rooms and put everything back where it belongs. This one goes together with making cleaning fun. Your kids can’t complain about the strict schedule because of rewards.
